Kent State is one of the largest universities in Ohio, with an enrollment of over 41,000 students. It is ranked by the Carnegie Foundation as one of the top 77 public research universities in the US and one of the top 76 in community engagement. The university was established in 1910 as an institution for training public school teachers.
Energy management is important to the facilities team and to the students at Kent State. The energy management office ensures that the energy dollars utilized to provide for the university community are used as efficiently and cost effectively as possible. This is done through energy conservation, education, purchasing strategies, sophisticated building automation systems and other new technologies, such as motion sensors and programmable thermostats provided by Magnum .
